Effective date: 8 October 2026
This policy explains how the Lucent app for iPhone ("Lucent", "the app") handles your information. Lucent is published by Solara Associates ("we", "us"), which is responsible for the app's handling of personal data. You can contact us at info@solara.associates.
In short: your photos, videos and searches are processed on your device and are never sent to us. We do not run servers that store your data. The free version shows ads from Google AdMob, which collects some device and usage data as described below. Subscribers see no ads.
1. Your photos and library
- Photos and videos: read locally, with your permission, so Lucent can organise, search and analyse your library. They are never uploaded to us or to any advertiser.
- AI processing: smart collections, duplicate detection, quality analysis, object and scene recognition, text recognition (OCR) and natural language search all run on your device using Apple's on-device frameworks.
- Photo location metadata: used to place photos on a map and group them by place. This stays on your device.
- Microphone and speech recognition: used only when you choose voice search, to turn what you say into a search query. Audio is not stored by Lucent. Speech is handled by Apple's speech recognition service, subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.
2. Data stored by the app
- On your device: collections, analysis results and settings are stored locally.
- iCloud (optional): if enabled, preferences and collection metadata (not photos) sync through your own iCloud account using Apple CloudKit. We cannot access this data.
- No Lucent servers: we do not operate servers that receive, store or process your photos or app data.
3. Advertising (free version)
The free version of Lucent is supported by ads served by Google AdMob. To serve and measure ads, AdMob may collect:
- device identifiers, including the advertising identifier (IDFA) if you allow tracking;
- IP address and approximate location derived from it;
- device type, operating system and app version;
- ad interactions, such as impressions and taps, and basic diagnostic data.
Before any personalised ads are shown, iOS asks your permission through App Tracking Transparency. If you decline, AdMob will not access your advertising identifier and ads will be non-personalised, though AdMob still processes limited data to deliver them and prevent fraud. You can change this at any time in Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking.
Your photos, photo metadata and search history are never shared with Google or any advertiser. Google processes ad data under its own policies: Google Privacy Policy and How Google uses information from apps that use its services.
4. Maps
The map view uses the Google Maps SDK. When you open it, Google receives map tile requests, which include your IP address and the area being displayed, but no photos or photo data. See the Google Privacy Policy.
5. Subscriptions and payments
- Every Lucent feature is free. Optional auto-renewing subscriptions remove ads. Titles, lengths and prices are shown in the app before you buy.
- All payments are processed by Apple through your Apple Account. We never receive your name, card details or billing address.
- Apple tells the app whether a subscription is active so it can remove ads.
- Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel them in Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions.
6. Support emails
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include. We use it only to reply to you and delete it once your request is resolved, unless we need to keep it for legal reasons.
7. Legal basis (UK and EU users)
- On-device features: processed to provide the service you asked for. None of this data reaches us.
- Personalised ads: based on your consent through App Tracking Transparency, which you can withdraw at any time.
- Non-personalised ads: our legitimate interest in funding the free version of the app.
- Support: our legitimate interest in answering your questions.
8. Your rights
- Control Photos, Microphone, Speech Recognition and Tracking permissions at any time in iOS Settings.
- Delete all app data by deleting the app. iCloud data can be removed in Settings > [your name] > iCloud.
- Reset your advertising identifier or limit ad tracking in iOS Settings.
- Depending on where you live (for example under UK GDPR, EU GDPR or the CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct, delete or object to processing of your personal data. Because we hold almost no personal data, most requests about ad data are best directed to Google, but we will help with any request sent to info@solara.associates.
- UK users can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk). EU users can contact their local data protection authority.
9. Children
Lucent is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU and UK), and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date at the top will change, and significant changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
